Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 28, 2025

At Inner West Chiropractic, we are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including amendments effective as of June 10, 2025, which introduce a statutory tort for serious invasions of privacy, and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This Privacy Policy outlines our practices for managing personal information, including sensitive health information, to ensure transparency, accountability, and compliance with all relevant obligations.

1. Information We Collect
In line with APP 3, we collect only necessary personal information, such as your name, contact details (email, phone, address), date of birth, health history, medical records, payment details, and other details provided during consultations, bookings, or inquiries. This includes sensitive information (e.g., health data) relevant to chiropractic care. We collect this directly from you or, with your consent, from third parties like referring practitioners. We provide a collection notice at or before the time of collection where practicable.

2. How We Collect Information
Information is gathered through face-to-face consultations, online forms, emails, phone calls, or our website, in compliance with APP 3 and APP 5. We may use cookies or similar technologies (see our Cookie Policy). Anonymous interaction is possible where feasible, though it may limit service provision. We do not collect information in an unfair or unlawful manner.

3. How We Use Your Information
Pursuant to APP 6, your information is used primarily for providing chiropractic services, managing appointments, processing payments, and enhancing our operations. Secondary uses, such as de-identified data for research or quality assurance, occur only with consent or as permitted by law. Sensitive health information is used solely for your direct care or with explicit consent.

4. Disclosure of Information
Under APP 6 and APP 8, we may disclose information to third parties, such as health professionals (with consent), insurers, or as required by law (e.g., subpoenas or mandatory reporting). Overseas disclosure is avoided unless essential for care, with safeguards ensuring equivalent privacy protections. We do not sell or share data for marketing without consent.

5. Data Security
As required by APP 11, we employ robust security measures, including encryption, secure storage, access controls, and regular audits, to protect against unauthorized access, misuse, or loss. In case of a notifiable data breach under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, we will promptly notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

6. Access and Correction
In accordance with APP 12 and APP 13, you may request access to or correction of your personal information. Submit requests in writing to our clinic address; we will respond within 30 days. Reasonable fees may apply for access, and we may refuse requests in limited circumstances (e.g., legal reasons), providing written reasons.

7. Complaints
If you suspect a privacy breach, contact us initially. Unresolved issues can be escalated to the OAIC via www.oaic.gov.au or 1300 363 992, as per APP 1. We handle complaints confidentially and aim to resolve them within 30 days.

8. Changes to This Policy
We review this policy annually and post updates on our website, notifying you of material changes where appropriate.
